Ahh, Bristol. That little word creates a huge grin on the face of a NASCAR fan. Add “night race” after it, and a grin turns into giddiness. Fortunately, it’s that time once again for the Bristol night race, and a weekend of glowing brakes — and tempers — under the bright lights of Thunder Alley.
Though winning for the first time at Bristol in March, Jimmie Johnson heads into this weekend’s Sprint Cup Series race in somewhat of a lull, not showing the consistency that’s made Johnson the four-time defending champion. Likewise, Kurt Busch finds himself near the bottom of the top-12, having slipped six spots after Michigan. Will Johnson’s new-found luck at Bristol or Busch’s historic dominance at the short track salvage their season slumps?
