Localizing Text

Trained moderators can use the web interface which is especially useful for spot fixes and incremental changes.  This document explains the import/export process for larger reviews and support for new products.

New Channels, Genres and Regions

  1. Request an export from development@radiotime.com for items that have not been reviewed, all languages.
  2. Set default translations with Google translate for editing.  To do so copy the column, use google.com/translate, then copy the results into the empty translated column.  See note below for correcting common machine translation problems.
  3. Return spreadsheets to David for immediate use, depending on acceptable delay.
  4. Send to the responsible moderator when available, else send to translator with detailed instructions below.
  5. Receive spreadsheets back, compare with original to review changes returned.
  6. Send updated sheets back to David for import processing.
  7. Development confirms when complete.
  8. Review change report.  Depending on significance, ask moderator or translator to browse opml in target language to verify context.

  6. Send each language to moderator if available, else send to translator with detailed instructions.
  7. Receive spreadsheets back, compare with original to review changes returned.
  8. Send updated sheets back to development for import processing.
  9. Development confirms when complete.
  10. Have moderator or translator review product in target language to verify context.

Target Context

This text is used as an internet radio feature in various products for browsing and listen to radio stations and podcasts.  Text is typically displayed on small screens and confined space – so a short version is more valuable. You can review examples including a few videos:

If you have not worked on RadioTime before, you’ll want to review existing translations to keep the same style and word usage.

You can review the browse experience with a browser.  To do so, change the zh language code highlighted below to browse in another language.

Your project may not include all text, but recent changes.  If you see problems with prior translations, please notify us.

Reviewing Localization

Replace es with the language you are checking.  Note that localization changes take 4 hours before they are live.
