TuneIn Version 2.5 (iOS) Is Here!

We’re always working to make TuneIn better, and today we’ve updated TuneIn Radio and TuneIn Radio Pro for all iOS devices.

Here’s what you can expect with this new version:

  1. We now have a fix for many of you who’ve experienced issues with the alarm clock and record timer while TuneIn is running in the background. The first time you set an alarm or timed recording, you’ll get a popup with instructions for the fix if we’ve identified that it applies to your Apple device.
  2. We’ve also fixed a few bugs relating to streaming issues some of you have told us about. Remember to send feedback to support@tunein.com to help us identify and fix issues early and often!
  3. Some of you asked for changes in how we handle stations that are “restricted by broadcaster.” We’ve simplified this to help you get to other stations you might like even faster.
  4. You can now use TuneIn with select Ford SYNC vehicles with AppLink!

Happy listening,

Team TuneIn

Introducing TuneIn Amplifier

Knowledge is power.

Smartphones. Tablets. Laptops. TVs. Digital receivers. There are lots of new ways for people to listen to the radio, and analyzing your station’s digital traffic can be cumbersome if not daunting.

Today we’re excited to announce a product built just for our broadcast partners, called TuneIn Amplifier, to shed light on this situation. TuneIn Amplifier is a free, simple tool that provides all broadcasters who have stations on our service visibility into their TuneIn traffic. With over 30 million monthly active listeners and a presence across 230 countries and territories, data from TuneIn can be used as a core sample to better understand how people listen to your station.

TuneIn Amplifier is fast, updating information daily, reflecting:

  • The total tunes (listens) your stations received
  • The total unique listeners for each of your stations
  • The average time listeners spent tuning in to each of your stations
  • The number of listeners from each country who tuned in to each of your stations (for the U.S., this information can be segmented by state)
  • The donation taps each of your stations generated via TuneIn Donate (available for listener-supported stations only)

This data can be sorted by individual months, a custom date range or a rolling 30-day period. All listener data is on the aggregate level; no individual information is shared.

We chose these metrics based on requests from broadcasters who reached out to us with ideas on how we could help them learn more about their audience. If you are a broadcaster and have any suggestions for new additions or improvements to TuneIn Amplifier, please send them to broadcasters@tunein.com.

In addition to these free analytics, you can update your TuneIn profile through TuneIn Amplifier, making your station more discoverable within our service and strengthening your brand.

This version of TuneIn Amplifier is only the first step, and we look forward to providing even more tools in the near future to help you succeed.

Get started today by visiting amplifier.tunein.com and sign up for an account!

TuneIn Availability in Ford SYNC AppLink

TuneIn Radio App to Offer Drivers 50,000+ Global Stations Through Voice-Controlled Ford SYNC AppLink

  • TuneIn Radio app will offer drivers more than 50,000 AM, FM, HD and Internet radio stations featuring music, sports and news from around the world
  • The addition of the TuneIn Radio app to the growing list of available apps for SYNC® reflects Ford’s commitment to keep pace with customer desires and consumer electronics trends

LAS VEGAS, Jan. 10, 2012 – The in-car listening options for Ford vehicles equipped with SYNC® AppLink will soon grow by more than 50,000 when TuneIn Radio joins the list of smartphone apps that are compatible with the system.

Ford and Palo Alto, Calif.-based TuneIn announced at the 2012 International CES that the TuneIn Radio app will be available for use with vehicles equipped with SYNC AppLink, and will provide drivers with another listening option that can be controlled hands-free through voice commands.

AppLink builds on the award-winning SYNC connectivity system by enabling drivers to access and control apps on their smartphones by simply using their voice, allowing their hands to stay on the wheel and their eyes on the road.

“Smartphone apps have ingratiated themselves into the lives of consumers to such a degree that we have come to depend on them for much of our news and entertainment,” said Doug VanDagens, global director of Ford Connected Services. “With the addition of TuneIn, SYNC is reflecting that trend while dramatically increasing the global listening choices for Ford drivers.”

TuneIn is a free service that lets people listen to live local and global music, sports, talk and news by offering more than 50,000 AM, FM, HD and Internet radio stations along with more than 1 million on-demand programs streaming from all corners of the world.

Using voice commands only, drivers of SYNC-equipped vehicles can control TuneIn and perform such tasks as search and listen to radio stations worldwide by artist or genre. For example, by saying, “Explore genre,” users can select hundreds of genres of music or talk stations like classic rock or German talk. Users also can search geographically by saying “Explore location.” TuneIn will then rank the most popular stations from the chosen location and start playing. More than 250 locations from around the world can be accessed via voice control.

“TuneIn captivates people by offering unprecedented access to listen to anything they want from local talk radio to live sports to music,” said John Donham, CEO of TuneIn. “With TuneIn, Ford drivers can now more easily enjoy the world’s audio from their favorite hometown stations to broadcasts half a world away – making listening even more global and personal.”

TuneIn is available in 10 languages and on more than 150 devices across all major smartphones and tablets, connected home stereos, smart TVs, car dashboards and online at www.tunein.com. The SYNC-enabled version of TuneIn Radio soon will be available through the iTunes App Store.

Ford SYNC AppLink is now available in 10 vehicles for the 2012 model year.

Driving the Future of Audio Services

Introducing Car Mode With Voice Command

We know that hundreds of thousands of you already enjoy listening to TuneIn in the car, and today we’re excited to announce a new feature called “Car Mode” that will make this experience easier and safer with the release of TuneIn 5.3 for Android.

With Car Mode, TuneIn becomes the first audio streaming service to offer people the ability to listen to their favorite music, sports and news simply by speaking a command into their phone or tablet. This groundbreaking feature is coupled with extra large buttons for easy viewing and control.

Here’s how it works. You’re in your car on a cloudy day and feel like brightening it up with some beach music. Using TuneIn, you turn on “Car Mode” from the main menu and tap the search button, saying, “Listen to Hawaiian music.” TuneIn instantly whisks you away to sunny Maui with the sounds of Polynesia filling your car.

Using Car Mode, you can also search by artist, album or song name. Let’s say you’re in the car and feel like listening to Adele. All you need to do is tap the search button and say “Play Adele.” TuneIn takes over from here, connecting you to the most popular station of a long list of every station in the world currently playing Adele. Now you’re listening to “Rolling In The Deep” from the top-selling artist’s album, “21.” If Adele is not currently on the air, TuneIn will automatically play a station that frequently plays her music.

You can also use Car Mode to search by cities or countries, so now you can listen to Prague or Australia just by the sound of your voice. There’s a whole world of listening out there – where do you want to hear?

Android owners can start enjoying Car Mode today. Just download the newest version of the TuneIn software and start listening to the world in a whole new way.
